On January 19, 2001, the Streamside Protection Regulation (the Regulation) was passed under the B.C. Fish Protection Act. The Regulation will initially apply to new or redeveloped industrial, commercial and residential development that takes place beside streams and other fresh-water bodies such as lakes, ponds, ditches and wetlands in the Lower Mainland, the East Coast of Vancouver Island and the Southern Interior. It will not apply to agriculture, mining, hydroelectric facilities or forestry activities as these land uses will be subject to other initiatives.
