Ontario hospitals find themselves in challenging times as they respond to directives issued by provincial authorities to reduce the public health risks associated with the recently identified Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (“S.A.R.S.”). The directives require public hospitals and the health care professionals working in this environment to observe strict infection control measures, to restrict hospital access for visitors and volunteers, and to take other measures aimed at helping reduce the spread of the S.A.R.S. contagion.
