The Ontario Budget Speech included a number of important new tax incentive proposals for Ontario’s energy sector. These tax incentives are intended to encourage: (1) the construction of new electricity generation facilities, (2) the consolidation of the province’s electricity distribution utilities and (3) the use of alternative and renewable sources of energy. These proposals are in addition to the energy tax incentives announced by the Ontario Government in November of last year and enacted under Bill 210 on December 9, 2002.
