The Supreme Court of Canada has stated that the specific objective of human rights legislation in the employment context is the elimination of arbitrary exclusion based on "preconceived ideas concerning personal characteristics" which, taking the duty to accommodate into consideration, do not affect a person's ability to perform his or her job.
