Jeff is an experienced intellectual property lawyer and patent agent. He works with clients to understand their needs and provides strategic legal counseling to protect their innovations.

Jeff’s practice has a particular emphasis on assisting companies in identifying and protecting their innovations with patents and industrial designs. His clients span various industries, including telecommunications, machinery, clean technologies, electric vehicles, medical devices, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), oil and gas, and more.

With a background in computer and electrical engineering, Jeff assists clients in a variety of technology areas, including artificial intelligence, software-based inventions, electrical and electronic devices, and mechanical devices and systems. Additionally, he has extensive experience in overcoming challenges that arise in patenting software-related inventions. He also assists in assessing the patentability of new inventions and assessing the validity and infringement of granted patents.

Jeff mentors law students at the University of Ottawa, and is a member of the International Patent Laws Committee of the American Bar Association.

Outside of work, and above all else, Jeff enjoys spending time with his family.

  • Preparing and filing patent applications for small, mid-sized and large domestic and international clients.
  • Directing the prosecution of international patent applications.
  • Drafting and prosecuting patent applications for universities, including physics and electrical engineering.
