Executive Summary

Xue Yan is a partner in the Toronto office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. Xue practises in the area of commercial real estate and advises clients on a broad range of commercial real estate matters from acquisition, disposition and financing of commercial real properties to structuring and negotiating investment vehicles to achieve client’s varied business objectives. In particular, Xue has extensive experience and notable expertise in sophisticated partnership, co-ownership and other joint venture arrangements for commercial real estate projects, as well as in corporate and project financings in different sectors of commercial real estate.

Xue is a member of the Firm's Asia Pacific Steering Committee and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Xue is also a frequent contributor and advisor to various Toronto-based organizations and businesses serving the Chinese Canadian community.

  • Acted for the City of Ottawa in its partnership with Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group or OSEG in the redevelopment of the mixed-use project known as “Landsdowne Park” in downtown Ottawa
  • Acted for a major Canadian real estate developer in its $225 mil. corporate financing with a US investment bank
  • Acted for CreateTO (formerly known as “Build Toronto” ) in its investment and financing to PT Studios Inc., a film studio operated by Pinewood Studios in downtown Toronto
  • Acted for the Toronto Region Board of Trade in its sale of the 290-acre golf course in Vaughan, Ontario
  • Acted for various real estate asset managers in structuring their real estate funds and asset management arrangement
  • Acted for a Toronto-based asset manager with large pension fund clients in acquiring various shopping centres and office buildings across Canada
  • Acted for a large hotel owner in its acquisition of Fairmont Chateau Laurier Hotel (Ottawa) and Fairmont Hotel Vancouver (Vancouver)
  • Acted for GR Canada in connection with a mixed-use development project (283 acres) in the City of Niagara Falls, Ontario
