Executive Summary

Steve Warnett is a partner in our Commercial Litigation Group in our Vancouver office. Steve focuses his practice on the areas of commercial litigation, domestic and international arbitration, appellate litigation, and intellectual property litigation. He has particularly extensive experience with shareholder and securities litigation, including oppression proceedings and derivative actions.

Steve has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia, the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal, and the BC Securities Commission. Before being called to the bar, he completed a judicial clerkship with the Court of Appeal for British Columbia from 2000 to 2001.

Steve is the regional leader of the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group.

  • Represented company that successfully opposed an application for leave to commence a derivative action.
  • Represented company suing its former directors for breach of fiduciary duty.
  • Represented plaintiff in patent infringement claim.
  • Represented one side of a law firm partnership dispute.
  • Represented a corporation with claims against a former director, shareholder and employee for breaches of contract and fiduciary duty.
  • Represented majority shareholders of a recreation company in shareholder oppression claim.
  • Represented party alleged to have committed patent infringement.
  • Represented chemical sales company in claim brought against one of its directors for breach of fiduciary duty.
  • Represented BC-based company in dispute involving Tanzanian mineral exploration.
  • Represented New York-based hedge fund in shareholder oppression claim.
