Prior to joining our firm, Brian Schneiderman served as a tax litigator with Justice Canada.

Representative Work

Brian represents public corporations, owner-operated businesses and individual taxpayers before the tax courts and in negotiations with the tax authorities. Brian advises on a wide range of tax issues including the taxation of mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, transfer pricing, foreign investment in Canada, Canadian investment off-shore, and estate and tax planning.

Publications & Presentations

Brian has taught and written in the field of tax law. He has authored articles for The Canadian Taxpayer and BLG Tax Law Update publications, and has served as a Canadian national reporter at the 40th Annual International Fiscal Association Congress. He has also served in the following capacities.

  • Principal lecturer and panel chair at Federated Press conferences including conferences on "Understanding Canada/US Transfer Pricing," "The Basics of International Tax and Transfer Pricing," "Topical Issues in Corporate Reorganization," "Effective Strategies," Creative Tax Planning" and "Cross Border Strategies".
  • Panel chair at IFA Canada international tax conferences including conferences on "The Role of Risk in Transfer Pricing" "Interpreting Canada's Tax Conventions" and a "Canada Revenue Agency Roundtable".
  • Lecturer on the "Taxation of Debt Financing" to auditors of the Canada Revenue Agency.
  • Chairman of an "International Taxation" panel at a Canadian Tax Foundation Annual Conference.
  • Lecturer and tutor at the In-Depth Tax Program of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
  • Lecturer in tax law at the Québec Bar school, Canadian Bar Association (Québec Section) continuing legal education program and the McGill University continuing education program.
  • Panelist on the "Uses of the Competent Authority Procedure" at a joint meeting of the British and Canadian IFA branches.
