Vivian Patsilivas has been a paralegal in our Montréal office since 1997, and works in the Intellectual Property and Information Technology Group as well as the Corporate Commercial Group. Vivian has attended a variety of courses on trademark research and completed an intensive practical trademark course and workshop at the McGill University Centre for Continuing Education. She is fluent in English, French and Greek.
Vivian focuses on all aspects of intellectual property such as trademarks, domain names, copyrights and industrial designs. She has extensive knowledge in trademark law including searching, preparation and prosecution of trademark applications, opposition proceedings and expungement proceedings. Her duties also involve responding to all issues related to the above, such as the preparation of argumentation in response to examiners' reports and opposition proceedings, and the drafting of interim letters reporting to clients with respect to official notices, and publications issued by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. She is experienced in the drafting of trademark availability and registration opinions, drafting and filing of copyright applications, and drafting of trademark, copyright, industrial design and patent assignments. She is also experienced in conducting availability searches for trademarks on different databases in Canada, the United States and internationally.
In addition, Vivian is experienced in assisting with the preparation of infringement and passing-off cases brought before the Federal Court. She works closely with other members of the Firm in coordinating legal due diligence reviews and effecting corporate restructurings in connection with corporate financing and/or M&A transactions.
