Rick Lam is a licensed paralegal in the Toronto office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. A member of the Insurance and Insurance and Tort Liability Group since 2004, Rick became a licensed paralegal as governed by the Law Society of Upper Canada in 2008. Rick has gained significant experience working on both plaintiff and defence matters since 2000. He currently focuses on the defence of personal injury and insurance claims specializing in accident benefits.
Rick's responsibilities include all aspects of managing a litigation file, including document management and reporting; preparation of pleadings and briefs; interviewing witnesses; arranging independent medical examinations, including retaining and instructing experts; summarizing evidence at the discovery and trial stages; trial preparation; attendance at discovery; performing legal research; and participating in settlement conferences.
Rick's scope of knowledge includes the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule, the
Insurance Act and other underlying regulations,
Small Claims Court Act, Rules of Civil Procedure,
Courts of Justice Act and the Dispute Resolution Practice Code issued by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario.
Rick also has significant experience in appearing on mediations, pre-hearing and arbitration matters before the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, and in Small Claims Court actions.
