Executive Summary

Stella Guo is a consultant in the Tax Group in our Vancouver office. She focuses on providing consulting services for investment from China into Canada and asset protection for high net worth Chinese families.

Before joining BLG, Ms. Guo worked for the British Petroleum p.l.c. (BP) as Regional Legal Advisor in the Asia Pacific, Legal Manager in Southern China and Regional Director of BP's manufacture and business development of solar products in Greater China. Ms. Guo has also acted as Director on the board of two clean energy technology companies in Canada.

Ms. Guo's expertise is in the energy sector, including wind, solar, oil, gas and chemicals and in the practice areas of mergers and acquisitions, corporate and commercial, international trade and compliance. Ms. Guo is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Chaozhou Dialect. She has worked and lived in Guangzhou, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Melbourne and Vancouver and is experienced in handling legal and commercial transactions involving multi cultures and multi languages.

Representative Work

Representative work as an in-house counsel for BP

  • Advising on corporate and commercial matters
  • Advising on more than 20 foreign direct investments (mergers and acquisitions) in China, including acquisition of 35 gas stations, one LPG terminal, one natural gas terminal, one jet fuel pipeline, one solar plant and one chemical plant as well as partnership with individual owners, CNOOC, Sinopec and PetroChina
  • Advising on trading of chemicals, gasoline, jet fuel, solar panel, bitumen and liquefied petroleum gas in Asia Pacific countries, Australia and United States
  • As a member of a legal consortium, participating in the due diligence and other legal work for merger of BP and Amoco, takeover of Arco by BP and share subscription of BP in CNOOC, Sinopec and PetroChina
  • Managing BP Legal team in Southern China

  • Managing a solar plant (a joint venture of 1000 headcounts) and serving as a director on its board
