Executive Summary

Joëlle Girard is a member of our Banking and Financial Services group. She focuses her practice on the various aspects of debt financing. Joëlle represents banks and other financial institutions as well as borrowers in connection with the implementation of credit facilities and the taking of security interest, both nationally and internationally.

During her law studies, Joëlle interned for a Superior Court judge. She was also research assistant in private international law at the Law Faculty of McGill University.

Joëlle joined BLG in 2014 after having worked for a national Canadian law firm.

Representative Work

  • Member of a team that represented a banking  syndicate directed by HSBC Bank Canada with respect to $193 million credit facilities granted to Englobe Corp. to assist that company in acquiring LVM Inc., a subsidiary of Dessau. The facilities are secured by assets located in Canada, the United States, Great Britain and France. 
  • Member of a team that represented the interests of Oxford Properties Group in the acquisition of a 50% ownership interest in the Quartier DIX30MC property, located in Brossard, the second largest shopping centre in Canada. The centre includes 2.3 million square feet of existing, multi-use commercial space, in addition to two future development projects. At the conclusion of that acquisition, Oxford Properties Group and Carbonleo became co-managers of the centre.
  • Member of a team that acted as Canadian legal advisors to Bank of Montreal, in its capacity as agent for a banking syndicate in the refinancing of credit facilities granted to Napec Inc. and its subsidiaries, a supplier of construction and maintenance services for public services and heavy industry markets, doing business in Québec, Ontario and the eastern United States.
  • Member of a team that acted for two separate banking syndicates, both directed by Bank of America, in the granting of credit facilities to Bauer Performance Sports Ltd. for the purposes of acquiring the baseball equipment division of Easton-Bell Sports.
  • Member of a team that represented Bank of Montreal as administrative agent for a syndicate of lenders in $250 million syndicated credit facilities provided to Lassonde Industries Inc., a North American leader in fruit and vegetable juices and drinks.
  • Member of a team that represented 5N Plus Inc. in connection with a $250 million cross-border syndicated financing.
  • Member of a team that represented one of the world's leading semi-conductors manufacturer in connection with a US$275 million syndicated cross-border securitization transaction.
  • Member of a team that represented Holcim (Canada) Inc. (formerly St. Lawrence Cement Inc.) in connection with a senior multi-currency credit facility.
  • Member of a team that represented BMW Financial Services Canada in connection with secured mortgage financings.
