Executive Summary

Allison Foord is a partner in the Litigation Department at the Vancouver office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. Allison focuses her practice on civil litigation and has served as litigation counsel in numerous civil and commercial litigation matters with particular emphasis on product liability, disability insurance defence, privacy and health law.  She has extensive mediation experience, particularly in personal injury, disability insurance defence, and product liability claims. She has trial experience in product liability, libel, and disability insurance claims.  Allison is experienced in the conduct of complex product liability litigation, including class actions.  She regularly advises clients on privacy law matters which includes the preparation of privacy policies, guidance on practices, responses to complaints and access requests, and reviews of contractual arrangements with service providers in Canada and elsewhere.  She is one of the two Privacy Officers for Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. The varied nature of her practice means that Allison is capable of adapting to handle the unique situation of her clients and has a broad base of experience.

  • Extensive experience in the conduct of complex product liability litigation, including trial experience and class actions.
  • Additional trial experience in a libel claim and arbitration experience in a significant commercial litigation matter.
  • The resolution of personal injury, disability insurance, medical and dental negligence claims.
  • Numerous applications on behalf of the media seeking access to court exhibits or to oppose publication bans.
  • Numerous applications on all aspects of procedure including, applications to dismiss for want of prosecution; petitions to enforce letters rogatory; applications for production of documents; and adjournment applications.
  • Preparation of personal information protection policies and advising public and private sector organizations under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the provincial Personal Information Protection Act, and the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act.
