Alexandre Desjardins is a senior associate in BLG’s Montréal office, where he deals with a host of environmental issues affecting businesses, government entities and individual citizens.
Alexandre possesses an in-depth knowledge of both Québec and Canadian environmental legislation, including provisions respecting contaminated sites, environmental authorizations and natural resources.
He advises his clients on the complex requirements of environmental compliance and assists in the procurement of permits required by municipal, provincial and federal authorities. He also facilitates interactions with the Quebec Ministry of Environment.
Alexandre is regularly called upon to act in commercial and real estate transactions to address environmental considerations. More particularly, Alexandre represents companies involved in the purchase, sale and leasing of contaminated lands, as well as advising in connection with obligations triggered by changes of use and cessation of activities.
He also advises his clients with regard to lobbying activities and lobbyist registration requirements.
Alexandre is involved with the Québec Bar as a member of the Environmental Law Committee, whose mission is to analyze environmental legislation and advise the Board of Directors of the Barreau du Québec. He is also a member of the Quebec Business Council on the Environment.
A member of the Québec Bar since 2012, Alexandre holds a Master’s 2 degree in Environmental Law from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (2011), a Master’s in Environmental Law and Sustainable Development from Université Laval (2011), a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Université du Québec à Montréal (2009), as well as a certificate in environmental science from the same university (2016).
