Jane Chong has been a paralegal at our Montréal office since 2011 and works in the Maritime Law Group. Jane provides support to lawyers by drafting proceedings, by reviewing, analyzing and organizing claim-related documents, and by conducting research on specific topics. She is also involved in the management of Canadian crew injury claims for a number of members of SCALA, a captive for Canadian shipowners managed by Charles Taylor Consulting. Since joining the firm, Jane has attended various seminars and courses on civil law and proceedings. Prior to that, she earned the Canadian Risk Management (CRM) Designation from McGill University (recognized by The Global Risk Management Institute, New York) in 2010, attended a "Hull and Machinery Claims" seminar at Lloyd's Maritime Academy in London, UK in 2010, a "Guide to P&I Insurance" seminar at The Standard Club in London, UK in 2007, and a "Basic Marketing Management" course at McGill International Executive Institute in 1999.
Jane previously worked for a major Canadian shipowner for over 15 years, acquiring solid experience in marketing and insurance, as well as in risk management. As an insurance and claims specialist, she has worked closely with brokers, underwriters, P&I correspondents, average adjusters, surveyors, experts and vessel managers in the management of marine and non-marine insurance and claims for the company's business units in Canada and around the world. Jane has handled, among others, vessel, cargo, personal injury and pollution claims from inception to settlement and was involved in the planning and implementation of loss prevention initiatives.
Jane is fluent in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese and has a basic knowledge of Italian and Cantonese.
