It is my pleasure to advise you of some of the initiatives currently underway at BLG, in this fall 2014 edition of the BLG Alumni Newsletter.

Since the last newsletter the firm’s National Council approved the firm’s five year strategic plan, Leading Our Profession. We have launched a number of initiatives under the Plan, including: a streamlined firm governance and management structure; enhanced business planning and budget processes for our National Practice Groups and established a number of highly focused and coordinated national client service teams and introduced the first phase of a national Pricing and Billing Policy.

We are also focussing on new market opportunities. As we announced at the end of October we have opened a representative office in China. This is a natural evolution of our work with Chinese clients looking to do business in Canada. We know we can provide a unique understanding of Canadian law, jurisdictions and industries – especially natural resources, along with a deep national bench of legal expertise.

In October, we were named Canada’s largest law firm for the seventh straight year by The American Lawyer publication and the 76th largest law firm globally. To be recognized as Canada’s largest law firm is about more than the numbers, it is about BLG’s ability to attract professionals with extensive expertise across a wide range of practice areas and industries, which in turn enables us to provide our clients with unparalleled service, strategic solutions and timely advice.

These are exciting times for BLG. I encourage you to stay in touch with me at As an alumnus/a, you are part of the larger BLG network and we want to hear from you. I encourage you to connect with our Alumni Committee at with any questions or feedback.

I would like to wish you and your families a joyous holiday season.
