Parliament has introduced Bill C-8, the Combating Counterfeit Products Act, (formerly Bill C-56). It was necessary to reintroduce it as it died on the order paper due to the last prorogation of Parliament. The summary of the bill provides that this will amend the Copyright and Trademarks Acts to add new criminal and civil remedies and new border measures in order to strengthen the enforcement of copyright and trademark rights and to curtail commercial activity involving infringing copies and counterfeit trademarked goods.
