In late 2004, new securities legislation will introduce significant changes to the manner in which the capital markets are regulated in British Columbia. The new legislation is expected to come into force on November 15, 2004 and replaces in its entirety what the BC Securities Commission perceives to be an outdated and overly prescriptive system of securities regulation in BC. The new system is intended to be responsive, flexible and results-based, and is aimed at lowering over-all compliance costs, increasing efficiency and ultimately providing better investor protection and market integrity.
