Bill C-45, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (criminal liability of organizations) received royal assent on November 7, 2003. The Act stems in part from the 1992 Westray mining disaster in Nova Scotia, where 26 miners died after an explosion at the coal mine. The Act establishes rules for attributing to organizations, including corporations, criminal liability for the acts of their representatives.
