Toronto (July 22, 2013) — Tim Buckley, partner at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG), has been elected chair of the Class Actions Section of the Ontario Bar Association (OBA), effective July 1, 2013.

Tim, the national leader of BLG’s Class Actions Group, has served on the executive committee of the Class Actions Section of the OBA for two years. He will serve as chair for a one year term.

“I am looking forward to building on the strong work of the previous chairs of this committee”, said Tim.  “Among the many initiatives of the section this year, we plan to expand our programming for litigation lawyers across Ontario to include London and Ottawa, and we plan to develop programming for business lawyers on class action risk assessment.”

Tim has also been invited by the Law Commission of Ontario (LCO) to participate in the Advisory Group of the Class Actions Project. This project was initiated by the Attorney General of Ontario in an effort to update the province’s class actions laws. As a member of the Advisory Group, Tim will have an opportunity to comment on the issues being addressed by the project, and the impact and effectiveness of potential recommendations made by the LCO.

The Class Actions Section of the OBA offers its members highly specialized programming, a unique practice-specific e-newsletter, and networking events.
