Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) acted as an advisor in two of the winning transactions at this year's Canadian Dealmakers® awards.

Capstone Mining Corp. (in partnership with Korea Resources Corporation) won the 2011 Mining Industry Award for its approximately $710 million acquisition of Far West Mining Ltd. Through the acquisition, Capstone and Korea Resources now own the Santo Domingo project, a copper, iron and gold mine in Chile. BLG's Fred Pletcher and Shantela Blaeser acted as counsel to the Special Committee of the Board of Directors of Far West in the deal.

Western Energy Services Corp. was handed the 2011 Oilfield and Exploration Services Industry Award for its acquisition of Stoneham Drilling Trust. The acquisition, worth $245 million, solidifies Western as the sixth largest contract driller in Canada in the deep horizontal drilling market. Brian Roberts, Jonathan Doll, Lindsay Holmes, David Madsen and Scott Cedergren of BLG represented Western in the transaction.
