Toronto (March 1, 2010) – Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG), Canada 's largest law firm, celebrates today its 10th anniversary as a national firm. Ten years ago today, regional law firms Howard Mackie of Calgary, McMaster Gervais of Montréal, Scott & Aylen of Ottawa, Borden & Elliot of Toronto and Ladner Downs of Vancouver, many of them dating back to the 19 th century, merged to create a single national firm. BLG is now one of the most reputable legal services firms and has grown to be the largest law firm in Canada , with more than 750 lawyers, intellectual property agents, and other professionals.

“The Canadian business and legal market has evolved significantly over the past decade and globalization continues to bring immense opportunity to Canadian businesses,” said Sean Weir, National Managing Partner of BLG. “We are leaders in what we do because we are aligned with our clients and we are committed to understanding their present and future business needs in order to deliver the best possible results. We focus on our clients' business. We know the law. It's then all about combining both for our clients' benefit.”

BLG's Toronto office was built on a long tradition of legal excellence dating back to 1936 when the original firm Borden & Elliot was formed. “We are fortunate to have been involved in some of the largest transactions and litigation cases over the past decade. Our clients have trusted us with their most pressing and strategic legal challenges. Thanks to our commitment to professional and service excellence, we have grown to be one of the largest full-service law firms in Toronto with more than 285 legal professionals,” said Frank Callaghan, Regional Managing Partner of BLG's Toronto office.

BLG has a strong commitment to supporting the communities where the firm operates. The firm supports firm-wide social responsibility, through pro bono work, community involvement and charitable giving. To mark its 10-year anniversary, BLG is making contributions to the following charities: SOS Children's Villages – Haiti , United Way , Stephen Lewis Foundation (Give a Day), Heart and Stroke Foundation and Canadian Cancer Society. BLG has a long tradition of charitable donations; most recently the firm pledged $500,000 to the McGill University Health Centre in Montréal.
