Vancouver (Sept. 9, 2009) – Carole Taylor, one of Canada's most highly regarded public servants, Officer of the Order of Canada, and prominent member of the business community, has joined the Vancouver office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, where she will serve as a senior advisor on public policy, corporate governance, economic and trade matters. While Ms. Taylor will be based in BLG's Vancouver office, her role is both regional and national in scope, advising clients in many sectors on policy and economic matters in relation to their specific business needs. Ms. Taylor will also assist the firm with initiatives such as the Women's Leadership Development Committee and its extensive community involvement programs.

'I have been fortunate in my career to have had experiences in both the public service and the private sector that can benefit BLG professionals and their clients as they deal with economic and policy issues that are important to business,' said Ms. Taylor. Ms. Taylor brings a distinguished career to her work with Canada 's largest law firm. She currently serves as Chair of the Economic Advisory Council for the Federal Government. From 2001 to 2005 she was Chair of CBC/Radio-Canada, where she was a strong spokesperson for public broadcasting. In 2005 she was elected to the B.C. legislature to represent the riding of Vancouver-Langara, and was subsequently named Minister of Finance. In that role she presented four consecutive balanced budgets.

As a highly regarded member of the business community, Ms. Taylor has served as chair of the Vancouver Board of Trade, Vancouver Port Corporation and Canada Ports Corporation. Her public and private sector interest and experience in good governance has led to her serving on the boards of HSBC Holdings ( London ), Canfor and Fairmont Hotels, amongst others. Most recently, Ms. Taylor was appointed to serve on the board of directors for TD Bank Financial Group. She has also been a prominent community volunteer, having chaired the Vancouver Public Library's Board of Directors and served on the Board of Directors of BC Children's Hospital and British Columbia Institute of Technology.
