Purpose of Role

The Trademark Law Clerk’s primary purpose is to work within a team environment to provide support to leading Trademark Agents and contribute to the overall excellent level of service provided to our clients by the Intellectual Property Group.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Preparing physical files for new Trademark matters
  • Preparing and filing new Trademark applications with the Canadian Trademarks Office
  • Reviewing and reporting Trademark Approval Notices
  • Reviewing and reporting Trademark weekly Advertisements
  • Reviewing and reporting Trademark Notices of Allowance
  • Reviewing and filing Declarations of Use and payment of registration fees
  • Receiving, checking, and reporting Trademark certificates of registration
  • Running Trademark conflict searches as required
  • Running reports as required
  • Preparing files for offsite storage
  • The role works closely with the Senior Trademark Law Clerks and may be asked to provide back-up to other team members and assist with other related duties, as required.

Key Competencies Required

  • Law Clerk Diploma (or equivalent)
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the area of IP, specifically Trademarks
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office (specifically, MS Word and Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Flexibility, good judgment and initiative, ability to prioritize
  • Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail and problem solve
  • Available to work overtime, when necessary
