Purpose of Role

The Audio-Visual Technician will be expected to be responsible for maintaining and supporting the AV environment, which includes designing, building, and maintaining all AV related equipment required by our lawyers and staff. The role also initializes video equipment, conducts pre-conference testing, monitors audio and video calls, troubleshoots technical issues and maintains a working knowledge of various product platforms. Additional tasks will include documentation and any other relative requirement issued by the client or management. The AV Technician will also be responsible for supporting the business goals and objectives for the department and the Firm as a whole.

Audio-Visual Role:

  • Responsible for the testing, setup and on-going maintenance of all audio-visual (A/V) technology related hardware as required by our users for various meetings or events. This includes laptop, TV, projector, room control systems, video conference, telephone communications and video recording devices
  • Responds to telephone calls, tickets, voice mail, email, and personnel requests for technical support
  • Be familiar with current AV components, technologies, and techniques
  • Responsible for maintaining and operating AV equipment used in the production and distribution of audio visual, multimedia and video programs
  • Provide setup and assistance with Internet meeting room related applications (i.e. Webex) for end users
  • Working with the IT Trainer, assist with A/V training for end users
  • Responsible for maintenance of A/V equipment
  • Responsible for the recording of internal and external sessions using an HD camera which may involve external lighting kits or sound boards; manipulate video files and transfer to others for editing
  • Responsible for boardroom maintenance including refreshing battery stock for wireless equipment on a regular basis
  • Assist in setups for events requiring A/V support
  • Assist in other general tasks as requested
  • Interact on a daily basis with support staff, management and professionals in an A/V technical support capacity
  • Perform site evaluations to determine AV needs
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on AV equipment and systems
  • Resolve problems for individuals and groups in an efficient manner, recognizing the proper course of action to take
  • Maintains a list of tasks that need attention and works with HelpDesk and IT management to prioritize
  • Responsible for research and development of emerging technologies and applications in the AV industry

Key Competencies Required

  • Two to four years' experience providing similar user support
  • Two years of progressive hands on experience in an audio visual environment
  • Knowledge of the technical aspects of lighting, sound, camera work, and video switching, performance monitoring, hardware maintenance and a team player
  • Proficiency with A/V equipment and computer hardware
  • Working experience with the operation, administration, and maintenance of a Multipoint Conferencing Unit platform
  • Knowledge and experience in equipment maintenance and inventory
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to follow through and prioritize tasks
  • Detail-oriented individual
  • Expertise in Windows 7/10, Microsoft Office 2013/2016, Internet Explorer/Chrome & Web conferencing solutions (ie. Webex, Global Meet)
  • Ability to interact professionally with all members of the firm
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication, organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work independently, follow instructions with minimal supervision and take initiative
  • A team player who will share information with colleagues
  • Self-motivated individual who takes initiative and enjoys the challenge of a dynamic work environment
  • Availability to work overtime, when necessary
  • Bilingual in French an asset
  • Previous law firm experience is preferred but not required
