In consultation with, and supported by, our Diversity and Inclusion Committee, our National Director of Diversity and Inclusion is responsible for ensuring that BLG takes a pro-active approach to diversity issues and that our mission is achieved in an effective and holisitic manner. Some of our recent initiatives include: Delivering training and education in a number of different formats, such as: Monthly Diversity and Inclusion Bulletins which cover substantive topics such as sponsorship, covering, and the concept of fit in recruitment; and Seminars on topics such as Unconscious Bias, the Myth of Meritocracy, Building an LGBT Inclusive Workplace; Building a framework of support around maternity/parental leaves including a new parent coaching program; Examining and updating our policies to enhance inclusion and in particular the roll out of a Transgender Inclusivity and Accommodation Policy; Creating and supporting Employee Resource Groups; Examining our processes to ensure that there are no unconscious biases or barriers to the advancement of women and diverse individuals; Regularly reviewing our talent pipeline to ensure the progression of women and diverse individuals; Supporting the development of our women lawyers through the delivery of customized programs; and Collecting and updating our demographic data to monitor the impact and success of our initiatives and to track changes in the composition of our workforce. Community Leadership Section Content 3BLG's commitment to diversity and inclusion extends outside the walls of the firm into the community. We partner with many organizations to promote and improve diversity and inclusion in our communities. Canadian Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce: BLG was one of three finalists for Corporation of the Year at the CGLCC's Business Leadership Awards, in recognition of the firm's ongoing commitment to creating a safer, more inclusive environment for LGBT employees, and leadership in the legal industry. Canadian Diversity Champion: BLG's national managing partner, Sean Weir, was recognized as one of Women of Influence's Canadian Diversity Champions. Law Firm Diversity and Inclusion Network (LFDIN): BLG is one of the founding signatories to the Statement of Principles of LFDIN, a group of Canadian law firms that have agreed to work together to promote diversity and inclusion within their firms and the broader legal profession. Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI): BLG is an Employer Partner of CCDI, a national not-for-profit organization focused on helping employers to effectively improve diversity and inclusion in the Canadian workforce. Pride at Work Canada: BLG is a national corporate sponsor of Pride at Work Canada, a leading not-for-profit organization supporting the LGBT community in Canadian workplaces. Catalyst Canada: BLG is a member of, and active participant in, Catalyst Canada, the leading non-profit research and advocacy organization dedicated to creating opportunities for women in business in Canada. Canadian Business SenseAbility: BLG is a member of SenseAbility, a member-based business network of organizations interested in driving business performance by hiring people with disabilities. Other community involvement : BLG supports and participates in programs and activities organized by various law faculties, law societies and associations committed to promoting diversity and inclusion, for example: Supporting the Black Business Law Clinic which provides pro bono business-oriented legal services to small businesses and not for profit organizations which cannot afford a lawyer; Sponsoring U of T Faculty of Law's Law School Access Program and Osgoode's Access to Law and Learning, which offer LSAT preparation courses and ongoing support and mentoring in the law school application process for low income undergraduate students; Supporting various student organizations and events such as Black Law Students Association, OutLaws at Osgoode; U of C's Diversity and Law Society and Calgary Women Studying Law; U of T's Women and the Law annual reception; Osgoode's Diversity Week; U of T's Law in Action Within Schools Program; RECESS at all Ontario law faculties; Sponsoring "See Yourself Here," the University of Toronto Faculty of Law's annual open house geared towards high school, university and mature students from a broad range of communities that are under-represented in the legal profession; Supporting Start Pride; Supporting the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers; the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers, the South Asian Bar Association and the Black Female Lawyers Network; and Participating in the Barreau du Québec's Projet Panorama. We are committed to affording women the full opportunity to develop, excel and become pre-eminent in their fields.Women are well represented at BLG, comprising more than one-third of our professionals. Our women also participate in key leadership roles and many are leaders in their areas of practice and the community at large. At BLG, our Women's Leadership Development Committee (WLDC) is dedicated to:fostering the development of our women professionals as leaders in our Firm and the community through leadership training, mentoring, engagement and networking activities; facilitating the engagement of our women partners and associates as client responsible professionals in their relationships with existing clients and prospective clients; furthering the development of knowledgeable and diverse client teams to better serve the needs of our clients; and connecting our women with business, the community and other women's organizations.The members of the Women's Leadership Development Committee are: Lynn McGrade — Chair Melanie Bradley Kate Dearden Phil Donnelly John E.
