Curtis Behmann is a partner, professional engineer and registered Canadian and US patent agent in our Intellectual Property Group. Curtis specializes in the drafting and prosecution of high-tech, mechanical and cleantech patents and industrial designs in various industries including wireless technology, semiconductors, security, financial/business methods, digital media and entertainment, consumer products, medical devices, water treatment, oil & gas, automotive and transportation. He advises entrepreneurs and established companies on how to turn ideas into assets, and to manage those assets in the context of their business strategy. Fluently bilingual in English and French, he assists clients in both official languages. He is a member of BLG`s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Innovation Sector Focus Group, and Auto Industry Focus Group.
Curtis has been repeatedly recognized in international ranking publications as an expert in patent prosecution.
Before joining BLG in 2002, Curtis worked at an IP boutique firm in Ottawa from 2000 to 2002, and as a senior patent examiner at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) from 1997 to 2000. There, he made innovative contributions to both policy and resource projects in the CIPO`s Patent Branch and received a federal government award presented by the Commissioner of Patents.
