Executive Summary

​Geoffrey de Kleine is Regional Manager of our Intellectual Property Practice Group in our Vancouver office.  A registered Canadian and US patent agent as well as a professional engineer, Geoffrey focuses his patent practice on the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in all areas of the materials and metallurgical, mechanical, electrical and electronic fields, advising on intellectual property management, providing patentability searches and opinions, and advising on patent protection strategies.

Geoffrey achieved the highest overall standing in the Canadian patent agent examinations in his qualifying year (2001). Prior to joining BLG, he worked as an engineer from 1996 to 1999, and also worked at a leading IP boutique.

Representative Work

  • Drafting and prosecuting patent applications in Canada, the US and internationally for major Canadian and international clients.
  • Developing and providing opinions on patentability, infringement, validity, inventorship, and freedom-to-operate issues.
  • Undertaking IP due diligence reviews.
  • Advising on patent filing and IP portfolio strategies.
