Executive Summary

Justine Blanchet​ is a partner in the Insurance and Tort Liability Group in our Calgary office. She practises in the areas of insurance and tort liability, general civil litigation and health law.

Justine acts primarily in insurance defence matters with respect to product liability, automobile accidents, fires, floods, directors and officers liability, professional liability, commercial host liability, commercial construction, surety claims and coverage. She has experience with land transportation and acts for a variety of trucking insurers and other self-insured companies and specializes in product liability matters. Justine also acts for creditors in general civil litigation matters, and has assisted clients with a variety of estate litigation matters including dependant relief and adult guardianship and trusteeship applications. She has appeared before all levels of the Alberta Courts.

Before joining BLG, Justine articled and was an associate with a regional law firm. There, she practised in the areas of insurance, business services and wealth management. She is fluent in both English and French.

Representative Work

  • Acted for a variety of insurance companies in defence claims for personal injuries arising from motor vehicle collisions, slip and falls, pedestrian accidents, commercial construction disputes, commercial host liability and product liability.
  • Acted for insurers with respect to disputes over surety bond claims;
  • Acted for a variety of insurance companies in subrogation claims arising from motor vehicle accidents and product liability claims.
  • Acted for a variety of insurance companies providing coverage opinions with respect to automobile, commercial and residential policies.
  • Acted for a variety of lending and leasing companies and agents for recovery of secured and unsecured claims.
  • Advised health care and long term care providers with respect to risk management and liability claims;
  • Acted for individuals, public institutions and corporate trustees with respect to guardianship and trusteeship applications.
  • Acted for individuals with respect to dependant relief claims.
