BLG's annual outlook on key trends and regulatory changes is released

Toronto (January 3, 2017)  — Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is pleased to release its annual thought leadership report, forecasting its top 10 legal risks for business in 2017. The firm expanded the report this year to provide the Canadian business community with deeper insight into the key trends and regulatory changes that will have legal implications in the year ahead. BLG’s Top 10 Legal Risks for Business in 2017 report features commentary from the firm’s lawyers on the major issues facing business in the year ahead. Covering common themes from technology transformations to market concerns and public debates, the issues explored this year include innovation, disruption and the regulation of fintech, cybersecurity and data privacy, shareholder activism, conduct risk as an increasing threat, securities regulators, medical cannabis, natural resources under pressure and transformation, government’s evolving management of infrastructure, global trading system, and employment agreements.

“The success of BLG is dependent on the strength of our partnership with our clients, and our ability to help them achieve their business objectives based on what defines success in their industry,” said Sean Weir, national managing partner and CEO of BLG. “We continue to develop and expand this report because legal issues should not be keeping you up at night. We aim to help our clients focus on and seize the business opportunities stemming from these complex and evolving trends.”

BLG will be hosting a seminar for internal counsel next spring in Toronto, covering the topics in this report to assess the impact and to mitigate the risk of these issues. Follow BLG on Twitter and LinkedIn for more insight on legal risks and on related initiatives.
