BLG partner Subrata Bhattacharjee appointed officer of the ABA section of antitrust law

Subrata Bhattacharjee, partner in our Toronto office and national vice-chair of the Competition and Foreign Investment Review Group, has been appointed an Officer of the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Antitrust Law. He will serve as Program Officer for the 2018-2019 term. Subrata has served in the section's leadership in many capacities, most recently as a member of the 15 member governing Council of the section. He is one of very few non-US attorneys to hold such a position.

The ABA Section of Antitrust Law is the leading professional organization for antitrust and competition law, trade regulation, consumer protection, and economics, with over 6,000 members worldwide. Members include attorneys and non-lawyers from around the world working in private law firms, in-house counsel, non-profit organizations, consulting firms, federal, state, and international government agencies, as well as judges, professors, economists, and law students. Further details about the ABA Section of Antitrust are available on the American Bar website.

"I have had the privilege to serve in the leadership of the ABA Section of Antitrust Law for many years. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to deepen my involvement in what I believe to be the world's leading forum for competition, antitrust and consumer protection. As a Canadian antitrust practitioner, I am particularly honoured to serve as one of the few non-US attorneys in the senior leadership of the Section."

Subrata has consistently been recognized as one of Canada’s leading competition/antitrust lawyers in international and domestic research-based and peer review surveys. Clients and peers have described Subrata as "terrific to work with, incredibly enthusiastic, a good strategic thinker," Chambers Global and "one of the best competition experts in the country," Who's Who Legal.

Subrata focuses his practice on all aspects of competition/antitrust law, foreign investment law and regulatory litigation, including quasi-criminal and constitutional matters. He has defended clients in major international and domestic cartel investigations, cleared major mergers in virtually all industry sectors, and provided advice on other contentious and compliance matters under the Canadian Competition Act.
